How much does a Stockholm trip cost?

Stockholm is one of Scandinavia's more affordable capitals when compared to Oslo or Copenhagen, but it is still a pricey city by global standards. A budget solo traveller staying in a hostel dorm and eating at supermarkets can get by on around 800 SEK (~$76 USD) per day. Mid-range couples sharing a 3-star hotel and eating at local restaurants should budget 2 000–3 000 SEK per person per day. Luxury visitors at the Grand Hôtel or Nobis will easily spend 5 500+ SEK per person per day.

The biggest variables are accommodation — Stockholm hotels peak sharply in June–August and during major conferences — and the number of museum visits (Vasa Museum, ABBA The Museum, Skansen open-air park all charge admission). Many of the best free activities rival paid ones: Gamla Stan (Old Town), Djurgården island, and the Fotografiska promenade are all free to explore.

Currency tip: 1 USD ≈ 10.5 SEK, 1 EUR ≈ 11.5 SEK (indicative 2026 rates). Sweden is almost entirely cashless — you can visit for a full week and never need cash.
